Veteran’s Affairs

we support the oral health of all members of our community

We comply with the Governments Coordinated Veterans’ Care program to improve the wellbeing of veterans who require dental treatment.

Gold Card holders can include veterans, war widows, war widowers and dependants.

The program provides emergency help to veterans at risk of unplanned hospitalisation.

Child Dental Benefits

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) commenced on 1 January 2014 and provides access to benefits for basic dental services to around 3.4 million children aged 2-17 years of age.

The total benefit entitlement is capped at $1,158 per child over a two calendar year period.

What Treatments are included under the CDBS?

The CDBS provides individual benefits for a range of services including examinations, x-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals and extractions. Benefits are not available for orthodontic or cosmetic dental work and cannot be paid for any services provided in a hospital.

Bulk Billed

Cairns Family and Cosmetic Dental Group bulk bills this important new scheme. When you call to book your child in for an appointment please advise reception if your child is eligible for CDBS and let them know your Medicare number.

Am I eligible for the CDBS?

  • Parenting Payment
  • ABSTUDY
  • Disability Support Pension
  • Parenting Payment
  • Special Benefit
  • Youth Allowance
  • Double Orphan Pension
  • Veteran’s Children Education Scheme, if the child is 16 or over
  • Carer Payment
  • Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act Education and Training Scheme, if the child is 16 or over

Information for families

It is estimated that 3.4 million children within the age bracket, and who meet the applicable means testing, will be eligible for the benefits each year. The means test that will need to be met will be exactly the same as the previous Medicare Teen Dental Plan, which necessitates the receipt of government payments, such as the Family Tax Benefit Part A or other suitable payments.

To ensure that all eligible children can use their CDBS entitled benefits, make sure that your details are up to date with Medicare and Centrelink.

The government has provided itemised codes for treatments that are covered by the CDBS. These treatments include basic dental services, such as check-ups, x-rays, fillings, and extractions. Services that are classified as high-end, such as orthodontic treatment, will not be covered by the CDBS.

Further information for families on the CDBS is available from the Department of Human Services website

Medicare - 132 011

Centrelink - 136 150
