Meet Our Dentists

Dr Allan Riches B.D.Sc – Principal Dentist

Our principal dentist became a qualified practitioner after graduating from Queensland University in 1983.  He opened his first practice in 1985 and currently enjoys treating his patients in the Cairns community with gentle and caring precision. He receives great satisfaction from seeing his patients leaving the practice smiling with pristine oral health.

Away from the practice Dr Allan Riches enjoys travelling, skiing, computers and spending time with his family; two beautiful Daughters, Son and Grandchildren.

Dr Amir Samad:

Amir has been practicing since receiving degrees from the University of Peshawar and the University of Melbourne. Amir has been working with Cairns Family & Cosmetic Dental Group since August 2013, and has a keen interest in root canal treatment, implants, fillings and porcelain veneers, and takes great pride in all his work.

Amir is a kind and caring dentist, and with his gentle and patient manner is wonderful with children and anxious patients.

Amir has recently married, and is now father to an adorable little boy. Amir's hobbies include cricket and politics.

Dr Manas Malkan:

After graduating from the University of Dublin in Ireland, Manas commenced practicing in Scotland before making his move to sunny Cairns where he joined our team in 2012.

Manas has shown a keen interest in implants, crowns and bridges. He excels in providing his patients with the best in restorative and cosmetic dentistry treatments, including CEREC same-day crowns and veneers. He takes pride in being a gentle dentist and always takes the time to explain treatment options to his patients. 

In his spare time Manas enjoys travelling and cycling. 

Dr Matthew McPolin:

Matthew completed his degree in Dental Science through the University of Dublin in Ireland in 2011 and has been practicing in the Far North since 2013.

In addition to completing his degree in dentistry, Matthew has completed various studies since in areas relating to Maxo-Facial surgeries such as Wisdom tooth removal, as well as training with AADFA to offer facial aesthetic treatments using Cosmetic Injectables and Fillers.  Matthew is an extemely gentle dentist with a knack for calming nervous patients and is also great with children.  

When Matthew is not at work treating patients, he enjoys trivia and game nights, and getting out on the reef; along with whipping up some tasty treats in the kitchen.

Dr Gillian Edwards:

Gillian has been a Cairns local for 10 years, after graduating from the University of Glasgow in 2007 and moving to QLD in 2008.

Gillian has a flair for dento-facial aesthetics, and has completed further education through AADFA, allowing her to become one of the few dentists in Cairns to offer specialised facial aesthetic services. Gillian uses her love of combining science and art to help enhance your natural beauty and believes that a beautiful smile is a whole face event. 

Gillian is a very gentle, kind and caring dentist, and as the proud Mum of a gorgeous 2 year old son she is great with children and creates a sense of safety and security for them while they are in her care. 

In her spare time, Gillian enjoys playing with her little boy, creating beautiful cakes, bushwalking and running.

Dr Alex Badaru:

Alex joined us in early 2016. Alex studied dentistry in Nigeria where he recieved his degree, and from there relocated to the UK and worked in various hospitals and private clinics.

Alex became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, England in 2004.  After 10 years in the cold and cloudy weather, Alex moved to sunny Cairns where he worked for 4 years, prior to joining our team. Alex has a keen interest in all aspects of dentistry and believes education in good oral health is vital for everyone. 

In his spare time, Alex loves spending time with his adorable dogs, and exploring the regions beautiful waterfalls.

Dr Jadana Blandy (Koppen):

Jadana is a Cairns local who completed her degree at James Cook University in Cairns in 2014, and has been practicing in Cairns since graduating.  

Jadana is a gentle dentist who cares about her patients needs, taking the time to explain things to ensure her patients understand their options. Jadana is passionate about achieving optimal oral health for all her patients, with a particular interest in restorative treatment.  

Outside of work Jadana enjoys horse riding, going to the gym, and exploring our beautiful region. 

Dr Ethan Zappala:

Ethan is a Far North Queensland local who completed his degree at James Cook University in Cairns in 2017 prior to joining our team in early 2018.

Dr Zappala has shown a keen interest in preventative and restorative dentistry, and has quickly gained a reputation for his kind and gentle manner, and understanding of each patients individual concerns. 

During Ethan's time off he enjoys fishing, camping and being outdoors.

Dr Denny Luo:

Denny is originally from Sydney and made his move to Cairns when he commenced his degree in dentistry at our local James Cook University, and Denny now calls Cairns home.

Denny completed his degree in 2017 and in early 2018 he joined our team on a part-time basis.  Dr Luo is particularly interested in periodontics (gum disease treatment) and is eager to assist and educate his patients on the importance of achieving and maintaining sound oral health.  

When Denny is not working, he is busy extending on his degree by doing additional studies at JCU, while working towards receiving his honours.

Dr Olivia Evans:

Olivia is a Cairns Local who completed her degree, locally, at James Cook University in 2014.

Dr Evans prides herself in being able to tailor her advice and treatment options to each patients' individual needs and is passionate about building a trusting relationship with her patients.  Olivia has a keen eye for detail and really enjoys doing intricate treatment such as crowns and root canals. 

On her days off Olivia enjoys raising her daughter with her husband. As a family they enjoys trips to the beach and enjoying our beautiful region.
